Baldwin names Habersham County Christmas Parade winners

Baldwin officials on Friday announced the winners of the City of Baldwin 2022 Habersham County Christmas Parade “Angels Among Us”.

The first-place finisher taking home the custom blue nutcracker trophy was Habersham Electric Membership Corp. with its lighted truck and trailer.

Baldwin Elementary School received the custom red drummer nutcracker trophy for its float.

Fairfield Baptist Church received the third-place green and gold custom drummer nutcracker trophy for its float.

Judges for Tuesday night’s parade were Eddie Elrod of parade partner Fieldale Farms, Don Higgins of Higgins Properties, Everett Huffman of Whitfield Funeral Homes and Will Regan of the Habersham County Airport.

Despite dense fog and the threat of rain, nearly 50 units from two dozen organizations participated in the parade that this year began from Fieldale Farms and ended at the new Memorial Park downtown.

Laura Saucedo Flores, mother of fallen DeKalb Police Officer Edgar Isidro Flores of Baldwin, served as Grand Marshal of the parade with other family members.

In addition to Flores’ family, the parade was also attended by DeKalb County Police Chief Mirtha Ramos, Maj. Curtis A. Williams and eight of their officers, who stayed to attend the dedication of a monument to Flores during the dedication of Memorial Park in downtown Baldwin.

A downtown Christmas bazaar was held prior to the parade.

In addition, a donation by The Samuels Firm allowed Baldwin to feed all those attending the parade and activities.

The Habersham County Christmas Parade alternates years in Baldwin, Clarkesville and Cornelia, with the host city planning and organizing the event each year.
