Two people killed in fire in unincorporated Commerce

Two people were killed Thursday evening in a house fire in unincorporated Commerce east of Homer.

According to a press release from Branks County Fire & Emergency Services, crews responded at about 10:45 p.m. Thursday to the home on Neal Road.

Arriving units found the single-family home fully on fire. Once the fire was controlled, crews performed a search of the home where they located the two victims. The victims were described as a man in his late 60s and a woman in her late 60s. 

The names of the victims were not released while authorities attempt to reach their next of kin.

The cause of the fire and the resulting deaths are under investigation by the Banks County Sheriff's Office, Georgia Fire Marshal's Office and the Banks County Fire Department Division of Fire Investigation. The Banks County Coroner's Office is investigating the causes of death.

No other injuries were reported in the incident.
