Missing boater's body found in Cornelia

By AccessWDUN Staff

The body of a missing fisherman has been recovered in Cornelia.

"The game wardens searched all day Saturday and Sunday with sonar, dive teams, Georgia State Patrol Aviation, and Habersham EMS also responded to the scene and assisted in the operation," said Mark McKinnon with the DNR. "About 11:20 a.m. on Monday, while game wardens and the dive team were searching, the body did surface and the dive team made the recovery at that time."

The man was identified as Mark Anthony Hicks, 50, of Baldwin.

Hicks's body has been turned over to the Habersham County Coroner.

Game wardens were called to the scene on Cornelia City Reservoir off Camp Creek Road after someone reported they had not heard from Hicks since bad weather moved through the area on Thursday evening.

Hick's family released a statement Monday evening.

The family of Mark Anthony Hicks appreciates each agency and person who has committed time and resources over the past three days to locate our loved one.
