A man was struck and killed by a vehicle in Suwanee late Monday night as the Labor Day weekend came to an end.

Lt. Robert Thompson with the Suwanee Police Department said the victim, Rogelio Ortega, Jr., 26, was walking eastbound in the westbound lane of McGinnis Ferry Road around 11:15 p.m. when he was hit.

Thompson said the 19-year-old driver of the Honda CRV involved in the incident told police she was unable to stop before striking Ortega. There is no word yet on whether charges will be filed.

The Suwanee Police Accident Investigation Unit is investigating the collision.

Ortega was one of 19 Georgians killed in traffic accidents over the three-day Labor Day weekend, according to the Georgia Department of Public Safety.
