Area hospital merger highlights Northside Hospital's growing presence in Georgia

By AccessWDUN Staff

This week's planned merger of Northside Hospital and the Gwinnett Health System is another indication of Northside's expanding footprint in northeast Georgia, which includes almost 30 outpatient centers stretching from Gainesville to Blairsville.

As AccessWDUN reported last week, the merger, which received final regulatory approval earlier this year, will take place on Wednesday.

In addition to the hospital in Cumming, Northside Hospital-Forsyth, which Northside acquired several years ago, the Atlanta-based hospital, which opened in 1970, has outpatient locations all over north Georgia and as far south as Macon.  In northeast Georgia, outpatient services are available in Dawson (2 locations), Fannin (1 location), Forsyth (12), Gwinnett (7), Habersham (1), Hall (1), Pickens (2), and Union (1) counties.

Meanwhile, Gainesville-based Northeast Georgia Health System continues to expand, as well.

It's most recent addition is a hospital in Dahlonega.  Northeast Georgia Medical Center-Lumpkin opened a few weeks ago on the site of the old Chestatee Regional Hospital.  NGHS has plans to eventually build a completely new hospital facility in Dahlonega.  It already has, in addition to its Dahlonega and Gainesville campus, hospitals in Braselton and Winder.

And, there are NGHS outpatient services offered in several areas across the region.  Click here for more information.
