Northside Hospital to remain in Anthem's network indefinitely

By Austin Eller News Director

A Fulton County Superior Court judge on Wednesday extended an injunction allowing Northside Hospital to indefinitely remain in Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia's network.

The ruling comes after a contract dispute in which Northside and Anthem reportedly could not agree on reimbursement rates for medical services.

A press release from Northside Hospital said Judge Rachelle L. Carnesale's latest ruling has no specific termination date.

"Anthem patients can continue to receive their medical care in the Northside Hospital system on an in-network basis beyond April 15," the release reads.

Carnesale also ruled that the dispute should be referred to the Georgia Department of Insurance to determine if Anthem's actions were permissible.

The move would have affected thousands of Northside patients in northeast Georgia. The healthcare system has hospitals in Cumming, Lawrenceville and Duluth, alongside several others in the metro Atlanta area.
