Resurfacing projects awarded for Banks, Forsyth counties

By Caleb Hutchins Assistant News Director

The Georgia Department of Transportation has awarded contracts for two major Northeast Georgia resurfacing projects.

The two contracts total just over $6.7 million. One of the contracts is to resurface Highway 51 in Banks County for nearly eight miles from Historic Homer Highway to the Franklin County line near Ariail Road. The other contract is for just over three miles of State Route 20 in Forsyth County starting near Kelly Mill Road in Cumming.

The contracts were awarded to Pittman Construction Company and C.W. Matthews Contracting Co., Inc. respectively. In a release, the DOT said any lane closures necessary for the resurfacing will be announced when construction on the projects start.

The DOT said both projects are expected to be completed in February of 2020. The contracts were awarded on April 5.
