Girls basketball playoffs: Buford, Rabun, LCA capture region titles

ELBERTON — The Rabun County girls captured the Region 8-2A title with a 64-46 win over Elbert County Friday night at the Elbert County gym.

Sophie Woodard poured in 19 points to lead Rabun County (26-1). Destiny Deetz had 14 points and 13 rebounds and Brooke Henricks 13 points and 9 rebounds for the Lady Wildcats.

Rabun County will take the No. 1 seed nto net week;s opening of the Class 2A state tournament. The Lady Wildcats have now won 24 straight games.

 

BUFORD 76,
CLARKE CENTRAL 44

The Lady Wolves claimed their third straight Region 8-5A crown with a dominating win at the Walnut Grove gym Friday night.
 
Buford (24-2) had 11 different players score, led by Blair Wallis with 17. Sara Viti had 12 points and Ebony Grant 10 for the Lady Wolves.
 
They will carry the No. 1 seed from Region 8-5A into next week;s Class 5A state tournament.
 
 
LAKEVIEW ACADEMY 61,
COMMERCE 34

The Lady Lions also continued to roll after whipping the Lady Tigers Friday night in the semifinals of the Region 8-A tournament at Commerce High School.

Lakeview (23-4) has now won 13 straight and will put the streak on the line against Prince Avenue Chrstian at 6 p.m. Saturday in the finals with the winner eaning the automatic berth in next week's Class A Private tournament.

Sadie Thrailkill had one her best games of the season with 11 points, 11 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 blocks to lead Lakeview. Eliza Snyder had 18 pts, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists and Jackie Allen had 11 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists. Jasmine Howard had 7 points, Joelle Snyder 6 points, and Linda Geib 4 points and 4 rebounds for the Lady Lions.

 

LANIER CHRISTIAN ACADEMY 56,
FIDELES CHRISTIAN SCHOOL 43

The Lanier Christian Academy girls basketball team won its first-ever region championship Friday night wth over the top seeded team in the GICAA - II-AA Region 1 finals.

“I am very proud of the effort that these girls put into this game," LCA coach Doug Wasden said. "They have worked hard all season, and it paid off at the right time.”

Madison Hughes led the Lady Lightning with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Faith Wasden had 11 points and Loganne Wilson 9 points and 6 rebounds for LCA.

Lanier Christian Academy will play in the GICAA Division II-AA State Tournament being held at Truett McConnell College.
