Chattahoochee River property in Forsyth County expands national park

About 20 acres along the Chattahoochee River will be added to the river's public recreation area thanks to work by the Trust for Public Land.

Georgia State Director for the Trust for Public Land George Dusenbury says the 18.2 acres sits below the dam and improvements will make it easier for people to enjoy. He said, "It's an important piece in Forsyth County where SR20 crosses the Chattahoochee River that is hopefully going to be part of a 12-14 mile greenway that will connect Buford Dam at Lake Lanier down to Johns Creek."

He says they bought the land in 2017 south of Buford Dam, but work probably won't begin until the master plan is finished. Dusenbury explained, "We are going to be raising money trying to get some private and public funds to try and make some of those improvements. That's would be something you probably not see before 2020 at the earliest."

Dusenbury added that, in the meantime, some signage will be added to the public land and hopefully a few improvements will make it easier for people to enjoy the area.
