Georgia residents become victims of identity theft more than most other people in the country, according to a report from an online financial news site.
An IRS spokesman said scammers often spend a little money to make themselves look more legitimate and added that tax scams over the phone and through email are common.
Overall, the number of idenitity theft cases fell over the last two years, but the online financial news site said Georgians reported 12,548 cases last year.
