Erwin leading House District 28 Special Election re-vote by 3 votes

CLARKESVILLE — The Special Election for Georgia House District 28 race is too close to call, with enough outstanding votes to potentially change the outcome.

With all precincts included in House District 28 in Banks, Habersham and Stephens counties reporting Tuesday night, challenger Chris Erwin leads incumbent Rep. Dan Gasaway by three votes, 3,516 to 3,513.

Habersham County alone has about 10 provisional ballots, while Stephens County has less than five and Banks County has two. Still, that is enough that the results could change if those ballots are upheld.

In Banks County, the Board of Elections will meet later this week to vote on the two ballots, according to Elections Superintendent Andra Phagan.

With such a tiny margin in a 7,029-vote election, an automatic recount is almost guaranteed once the election is certified.
