GDOT construction suspended for the Thanksgiving holiday

By AccessWDUN Staff

To ease Thanksgiving traffic congestion statewide, the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) will suspend construction-related lane closures on interstate highways and heavily-traveled state routes  over the holiday travel period.

Construction will be suspended from 6 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21 to 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 26.

"Travel is expected to be at an all-time high this year as people visit friends and family for the Thanksgiving holiday and shop on Black Friday,” said Georgia DOT State Construction Engineer John D. Hancock. “In order to provide work-zone free travel, we are limiting construction and associated lane closures.”

While most construction-related lanes closures are suspended, there are some long-term lane closures that will remain in place. Also, in the event of an emergency, lane closures could be implemented, as well.

Similar restrictions will be in place for for the Christmas and New Year holidays.
