Neither driver involved in a two-vehicle wreck Monday morning that split a car in half in Homer suffered life-threatening injuries, according to the Georgia State Patrol.
The wreck happened just before 7:30 a.m. on U.S. 441/Ga. 15 at Thompson Street in Homer and involved a 1999 Honda Civic driven by Homa Rastegari, 56, of Athens, and a 2016 Acura TLX driven by Elizabeth Young, 54, of Demorest, according to Cpl. Major D. Patterson of GSP Post 6 in Gainesville.
Rastegari’s Honda was traveling north on Ga. 15 in the left turn lane approaching its intersection with Thompson Street, according to Patterson. Young’s Acura was traveling south on Ga. 15 in the left lane approaching the intersection of Thompson Street.
According to Patterson, Rastegari failed to yield and turned left into the path of Young’s car.
Young steered left but was unable to avoid impact, according to Patterson. The Acura struck the Honda in the right side with its front. After impact, the Honda rotated clockwise, separated into two pieces and came to rest in the southbound lanes of Ga. 15/U.S. 441 facing south. The Acura came to rest in the median of Ga. 15 facing south.
Rastegari was injured and was transported by Banks County ambulance to Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center for treatment.
Young was injured and was taken by Banks County ambulance to Northeast Georgia Medical Center for treatment.
