Suwanee accepting applications for 2018 Harvest Farm season

Registration is now open for Suwanee's Harvest Farm, officials announced this week.

The community garden, located in White Street Park in the city's Old Town area, has 76 plots that can be rented on an annual basis, according to a news release.

Three different plot sizes are available for a rent on a first come, first served basis — with priority given to city residents, who also receive a 25-percent discount on registration fees.

Small 5' x 5' plots are $50 per year, medium 5' by 9' plots are $75 and large 5' by 12' plots are $100.

There is a $15 registration fee.

Plot renters are also required to contribute 12 hours of volunteer service each year "(s)ince the success of the garden depends upon the support of its gardeners."

Gardeners can grow fruits, vegetables, flowers or herbs on their plots, and annual fees cover a raised bed, utilities, basic community tools, social/educational events and compost, officials said.

Renters will have to pay for their own seeds, plants and amendments, like stakes or trellises.

Applications can be submitted online for the harvest season, which runs from Jan. 1, 2018 to Dec. 31, 2018.

Suwanee officials bill the garden as Georgia's largest organic community garden.
