Suwanee City Council voted this week to overhaul the city's website, at a cost of $34,540.
The contract was awarded to Vision, a company based in El Segundo, Ca., according to Denise Brinson, assistant city manager.
"You wouldn't know it by looking at it — because visually it looks pretty cool — but the back end (of the website) needs an overhaul. It's actually been about 20 years," said Brinson.
One of the main goals of the new website is to make it more usable for mobile devices. Under the current setup, Brinson said the city has to maintain a separate site for mobile users, forcing staff members to update the site twice for every item posted — once for regular users, and once for mobile users.
"Right now, the functionality — they don't work together," said Brinson.
Now it will only take one update for city leaders to get their messages to website visitors, regardless of what kind of device visitors might be using.
"Over 20 years it tends to get saturated with content, and gets rather difficult to navigate," said Brinson.
The new website should be rolled out in the first quarter of 2018.
"We're looking forward to some newness," said Brinson.
