Driver charged with DUI after wrong-way crash on 365 in Baldwin

BALDWIN — A Suwanee woman faces charges after a wrong-way crash on Ga. 365 near Charley Davis Road in Baldwin just before 9:30 Tuesday morning, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

A 2016 Honda Civic driven by Pamela Leavell, 58, of Suwanee, was traveling south on Ga. 365 in the left turn lane at its intersection with Charley Davis Road, according to Trooper 1st Class Aaron Church of GSP Post 7 in Toccoa.

Leavell’s Honda continued south on Ga. 365 into the northbound lanes, Church said. As it was traveling south on Ga. 365 in the northbound lanes, the Honda attempted to make a left turn into the BP gas station, and struck the front end of a 2016 Nissan Versa driven by James Richards, 62, of Gainesville.

After impact, Richards’ Nissan traveled onto a concrete island and came to rest facing northeast, according to Church. After impact, Leavell’s Honda rotated and traveled back north, coming to rest in the painted gore area of Ga. 365 northbound facing northwest.

Leavell, who complained of injury but was not taken for treatment, told the investigating trooper she was attempting to turn into the BP gas station, Church said.

GSP charged Leavell with driving under the influence and driving on the wrong side of the road.

Richards was transported for treatment of minor injuries, Church said.
