UPDATE: As of 9:30 a.m., power had been restored to all but 112 customers left in the dark by an equipment malfunction at a Jackson EMC substation.

Original story:

As of 9 a.m. Wednesday, nearly 8,000 Jackson EMC customers in parts of Hall, Gwinnett and Barrow counties were without power because of an equipment problem at the utility's Spout Springs substation.

Jackson EMC spokeswoman April Sorrow said during the initial failure, several thousand additional customers were without power, but crews were able to redirect those customers to another substation.

At this point, crews are evaluating what caused the equipment at the substation to malfunction and they are working to restore power as quickly as possible.

Sorrow said she did not have a timetable on when power would be restored.
