No. 5 UNG baseball takes series from Montevallo

DAHLONEGA — The fifth-ranked North Georgia baseball team picked up the weekend series victory over the visiting Falcons of Montevallo following a decisive 15-4 win Sunday afternoon at Bob Stein Stadium.

With the win, the Nighthawks improve to 25-7 overall and 11-4 in the Peach Belt Conference.

The Nighthawk bats came alive early in the game, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning off of four hits, including doubles from Michael Gouge and Bill Leroy and a two-run homerun to right field from Michael Bell to make his second of the weekend series.

North Georgia added to their lead in the bottom of the third as Gouge scored on the throw after a dropped ball by Sebastian Samuels, the Montevallo right fielder, to make the score 4-0.

The Nighthawks scored four more runs in the fourth, this time off of four hits, including RBI singles from Gouge and Leroy to make the score 8-0.

North Georgia went on to score seven more runs, including three-run seventh inning highlighted by RBI singles from Michael Bell and Trevor Sams.

UNG went into the ninth inning with a 15-0 lead, but gave up four runs off of a two-out grand-slam from Montevallo third baseman, Ryan Brooks.

Dylan Pepper's (3-2) earned the win on the mound after 7.2 innings of shutout starting work, striking out seven and allowing just two hits.

Notes
- Freshman Andres Perez led the UNG effort at the plate going 3-for-5 with a double and three RBI.

- After allowing just two hits in today's contest, Peppers has allowed two or fewer hits in five of his nine outings.

- The Nighthawks had four players with three runs batted in on the day, Trevor Sams, Bill Leroy, Michael Bell, and Michael Gouge who remains in third place in the PBC with 47 on season.

The Nighthawks travel to Pensacola, Florida on Tuesday, April 4 to take on West Florida. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. CDT.
