Baseball: Post-game brawl mars Habersham Central-Franklin County contest

By Jeff Hart Sports Reporter

CARNESVILLE — A brawl broke out between the Habersham Central and Franklin County baseball teams after the Lions had finished off a 5-2 victory over the Raiders on Saturday.

According to the Georgia High School Association, the incident happened after the game was over during the handshake line and the umpires were already off the field. There was no word from the GHSA on what instigated the brawl.

Ernie Yarbrough, director of baseball for the GHSA, said when an incident like that occurs at the conclusion of a game the officials have no jurisdiction to hand out any actions and it becomes a school issue and each school is expected to handle its own discipline. Yarbrough said they had been in contact wit both schools and that disciplines are being discussed as administrators form both schools get together to decide a course of action.

AccessWDUN will report on any actions that are handed down as we find out the information.
