White Sox call up former Jefferson standout Chris Beck

By Jeff Hart Sports Reporter

CHICAGO — Former Jefferson standout Chris Beck was called up by the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday.

It is the second call to the Major League club for Beck, a 2009 graduate from Jefferson High. He started one game for the White Sox in 2015 allowing four runs and 10 hits in six innings in a loss to Baltimore as part of a doubleheader. He was optioned back to Charlotte after that game.

It is unclear whether he would be part of the White Sox rotation or come out of the bullpen this time around. Beck was recalled after Chicago placed right-hander Zach Putnam on the 15-day disabled list.

Beck attended Georgia Southern University from 2010-12 and was signed as a college free agent following his senior season. He was selected by Cleveland in the 35th round of the 2009 MLB First-Year Player Draft, but did not sign and instead went to Georgia Southern.
