A former teacher at South Gwinnett High School is charged with sexual assault and three counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor for her alleged affair with a male student at the school.
Therese Dunn, 53, resigned from her job during the course of the investigation, which started April 19 after a parent went to the school to report that her 17-year-old son was involved in a sexual relationship with Gunn.
Gwinnett County police detectives became involved in the case the next day after the school resource officer relayed the information about the alleged affair.
According to a police report, the relationship began sometime in March and has since ended. The report stated that the alleged sexual activity occurred at the school, at the teacher's residence and at Lenora Park.
The detective also said Gunn hosted a party at her home in Grayson where she allowed the 17-year old and two other students - both female - to smoke marijuana under her direct supervision. According to the detective, Gunn smoked marijuana, as well.
Gwinnett police said Gunn turned herself into the Gwinnett County Jail on Friday, May 6 at 6:22 p.m. She was released on bond on Saturday, May 7 at 1:06 a.m.
Gunn is the fourth Gwinnett County public school teacher arrested this school year on sexual misconduct charges involving students. James Buckland, a Summerour Middle School teacher, was accused in October of sexually assaulting a Norcross High School student who was visiting the middle school; in March, Julee Impara, a teacher at Mill Creek High School, was accused of having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old male student; and just last month, band instructor Michael Appelbaum was accused in the sexual assault of two female students at the Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science and Technology.
