A Gainesville teenager was arrested Wednesday evening following an investigation into the alleged sexual assault on a pre-teen girl in 2020.

According to B.J. Williams, public information officer with the Hall County Sheriff's Office, Jonathan Guadlupe Gomez, 18, was charged with rape, aggravated sodomy, aggravated child molestation, child molestation and sexual battery on a child under the age of 16. All of the charges are felonies.

Investigators said the crimes allegedly happened in September 2020 at the suspect's residence on Second Street. The suspect and the victim knew each other.

"The girl apparently admitted to a relative that these assaults had taken place, and the relative then got in touch with law enforcement," Williams said.

Gomez was 16 at the time of the alleged crimes, however, he is being charged as an adult due to the seriousness of the incidents.

Gomez was booked into the Hall County Jail just after 6 p.m. Wednesday and remained in the jail without bond as of Thursday morning.
