The Alto woman who died while incarcerated at the Banks County Jail died of self-inflicted injuries.
That's according to information released by the GBI on Friday.
Tammy Sue Greenway, 48, was found unresponsive in a cell by jailers about 10:30 a.m. Jan. 26.
She was being held on charges of aggravated assault under the Family Violence Act following her Jan. 23 arrest.
Despite emergency medical procedures, Greenway died at Northridge Hospital in Commerce, officials said.
The Banks County Sheriff’s Office requested the GBI Region 11 Field Office in Athens to investigate the incident.
