Gainesville man seriously hurt in Banks County ATV crash

The Georgia State Patrol has released details of a private property crash in Banks County that seriously injured a Gainesville man Sunday afternoon.

Gilbert Ibarra was seriously injured when the ATV he was riding in a pasture off Emory Chambers Road in Banks County crashed about 2:55 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 16.

"Mr. Ibarra was traveling down a terraced hill at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the ATV," according to an email from Trooper David A. Kraeling of GSP Post 6 in Gainesville. "The ATV made impact with the ground on its front right side causing it to turn over and throw Mr. Ibarra to the ground approximately 10 feet away."

Ibarra was not wearing a helmet, and was unconscious and unresponsive, Kraeling said.

Ibarra was airlifted by Gainesville-based AirLife Georgia 2 to Grady Memorial Hospital with what Kraeling reported as serious injuries.
