Hall Co. elections officials get ready for polling changes for Nov. 3 elections

By B.J. Williams
GAINESVILLE — Change is never easy, and when it comes to an election, change can be downright tricky.

Earlier this month, the Hall County Elections Board voted to consolidate the county's 34 precincts into 31. The increase in advance voting numbers, along with the hope of saving money, prompted the change.

Hall County Elections Director Charlotte Sosebee said at a meeting this week her office is busy making sure voters are informed of those changes in advance of the November 3 election.

She said voters first will get postcards explaining the consolidation of precincts and the new numbers assigned to polling locations.

"Seems like all the voters will be getting a card this time because the numbers of all the precincts are going to change," said Sosebee.

Sosebee said postcards would be mailed at the end of September or the beginning of October, well in advance of the election.

In addition, elections officials will make a push via local media to alert voters of the changes. And, said Sosebee, they'll go to polling places directly and place signs in visible locations.

"It'll be just a sign that says 'attention voters, if you voted here before, your new location will be blah, blah, blah...,'" said Sosebee.

At last count, there were 86,000 active voters in Hall County; 93,000 people in the county are actually eligible to vote, according to Sosebee.
