GAINESVILLE - A man facing felony charges in Pickens County escaped from Northeast Georgia Medical Center early Monday morning.
Cpl. Joe Britte with the Gainesville Police says 54-year-old Robert Walter Sheriff escaped around 3:30 a.m.
Britte described Sheriff as being about 5'9", 175 pounds, with brown/gray hair and brown eyes.
"Last seen wearing a soiled white t-shirt, possibly a polo shirt, dirty khaki shorts and flip flops," said Britte.
Police say they don't know where Sheriff is going, but cautioned anyone who finds him to call 911 immediately. "We were told the suspect could be combative if approached by law enforcement," said Britte. "His last known location though, we're not sure." Britte said people should not approach him.
Scientists are fine-tuning what they know about rivers and marshes flushed with saltwater by ocean tides so they can better predict how rising sea levels will reshape the Georgia coast over the next century.
The Georgia Council on Developmental Disabilities (GCDD) will host a series of public forums between now and Sept. 30 in order to collect public input on its next strategic plan, including one in Gainesville.
