Woman charged in crash that killed driver of big rig

By Staff
NORCROSS - A Norcross woman faces charges in a fatal accident that jammed traffic on I-85 northbound during Thursday's morning rush hour.

Gwinnett County police said Maria Zeeyala Torres was at fault in an accident that killed 39-year-old Eric Murray of Minneapolis, Minnesota, the driver of a tractor trailer that overturned on the interstate. A passenger in the rig, 62- year-old Bryant Garrott of Minneapolis, was transported to Gwinnett Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Investigators said Torres merged into the tractor trailer's lane, causing it to crash.

She has been charged with Vehicular Homicide 2nd degree, No Drivers License, and Failure to Maintain Lane.

The fatal accident occurred at 7:05 a.m. on I-85 northbound between Beaver Ruin Road and Steve Reynolds Boulevard.
