Georgia Power rate hike approved by PSC

By The Associated Press
ATLANTA - Georgia Power customers can expect to see their electric bills go up, beginning in January.

The Public Service Commission has approved a three-year settlement allowing Georgia Power to collect $323 million more per year from customers.

The deal, approved Tuesday, adds $5.24 to the typical household's average monthly bill of $94.55. Rates then freeze through 2010. The increase goes into effect next month.

Georgia Power originally asked for $407 million in new revenues for 2008, with new increases in 2009.

Under that plan, the typical household bill would have increased by $10.29 per month by 2010.
