National Day of Prayer breakfast Thursday

GAINESVILLE - Astronaut Charles Duke, one of only twelve men to walk on the moon, will be the featured speaker at the Second Annual National Day of Prayer Breakfast in Gainesville Thursday.

Duke served as lunar module pilot for the Apollo 16 mission and during his career as an astronaut logged almost 166 hours in space. He served as backup lunar module pilot for Apollo 13 and Apollo 17.

Duke and his wife, Dorothy, live in New Braunfels, Texas. They have two sons and three grandchildren, and co-authored the book "Moonwalker" and two videos, "Moonwalker" and "Walk on the Moon, Walk with the Son."

Duke has appeared on numerous TV shows and spoken at hundreds of schools, churches, and other organizations around the world.

The prayer breakfast - at the Georgia Mountains Center - begins at 7:00 and is scheduled to end by 8:45. It is sponsored by a number of Gainesville area businesses and individuals. The cost is $15 per person or $120 per table.
