Emory University will relocate commencement ceremonies to Gwinnett County

By Steve Winslow Anchor/Reporter

Recent student protests on the campus of Atlanta's Emory University has forced school officials to relocate their delayed commencement ceremonies to Gwinnett County next week.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports Emory President Gregory Fenves announced on Monday that safety concerns led them to move graduation-related ceremonies from their campus to the Gas South Arena and Convention Center District in Duluth for Monday, May 13.

Fenves also says the university will post changes to the schedule on its commencement website, which includes a FAQ section.  Students and faculty members are encouraged to bring their college I.D. with them to the ceremonies, which will begin at 8:30 a.m.

Several colleges nationwide have recently changed or canceled commencement ceremonies in anticipation of protests or demonstrations in connection to the Israel-Hamas conflict in the Middle East.
