Jefferson football saw a semifinal berth slip just beyond its grasp on Friday night, as Blessed Trinity edged out a tense, 28-21 overtime victory in the Class AAA quarterfinals in Jefferson.

Some streaks continued while others came to a crashing halt Friday night in the quarterfinal round of the state football playoffs.

It was a defensive battle in the truest sense. And Commerce took advantage of three Calhoun County turnovers and a key bad punt to pull out a tough 10-0 win Friday night in the quarterfinals at Ray Lamb Stadium.
