Two people were arrested for allegedly stealing a tractor from a Jefferson facility following an undercover operation by Jackson County investigators Tuesday.

Jackson County Sheriff Janis Mangum said authorities were told by Kubota officials that a tractor had been stolen from the facility last week. Investigators later identified the suspects as Dontan Antwan Robinson, age 29 of Athens, and Demarco Robinson, age 27 of Stockbridge.

Mangum said Dontan Robinson is confirmed to be an employee of the Kubota facility while Demarco Robinson was a contract transport driver. She said investigators eventually found a lead on the stolen tractor online.

"The investigators received information that they had seen that tractor on a marketplace trying to be sold," Mangum said. "Our investigators went down to Spalding County and, with the help of the Spalding County Sheriff's Office, were able to arrest the man. He brought the tractor to sell it to him."

Police then arrested both men with Demarco Robinson being arrested on charges of felony theft by taking and Dontan Robinson being charged with party to the crime of theft by taking.

The undercover buy operation was reportedly conducted on Monday.
