Robert Bennett Walker

Robert Bennett Walker was born on October 26, 1956 in Macon, Georgia to his parents, Curtis Earl Walker and Janie Francis Wood.  He passed away on Sunday, February 2, 2020 at his home in Cumming, Georgia after a nine-month battle with a very rare form of cancer.

He was raised in Macon and attended Southwest High school, where he met Sharla Carroll in a trigonometry class. After she introduced him to her faith, three months later at the age of seventeen, he was baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. After graduation in 1974, he attended Brigham Young University for a semester before returning home to prepare for his two-year missionary service for the Church in the California Anaheim and Arcadia Missions. He fulfilled an honorable mission, and even extended his time for an extra month.

Following his mission, he returned home to Macon and married his high school sweetheart, Sharla, on March 2, 1978 in the Washington, DC Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- day Saints, where they were sealed for time and all eternity.  He and Sharla then began their family with the birth of their first son, Christopher.  After working and attending classes at Macon College, he decided to attend the University of Georgia and then moved to Athens. It was there they had their second child, Jaime, and he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Management Information Systems from the Terry School of Business.

After graduation, he went to work for Xerox in Charlotte, North Carolina as a Systems Analyst.  Shortly after the birth of their third child, Ashley, they transferred to Raleigh, North Carolina, and two years later to Atlanta, fulfilling his dream to move back to Georgia. He lived and worked in Marietta for ten years, welcoming the last two of their five children, Caroline and Dylan.  Besides two one- year stints in Phoenix, Arizona, and Tampa, Florida, he has lived and worked in Cumming for the last twenty years. Georgia was and forever will be home.

Bob loved Southern Rock, especially the Allman Brothers Band, playing tennis, scuba diving, and researching and test driving the newest cars on the market. He especially loved Georgia Football and anything and everything that his children were interested in doing.

But the thing he loved the most was serving the Church in various callings, especially in the Atlanta Temple, where he served as an ordinance worker, Thursday evening shift coordinator, and as an assistant recorder, until he became ill in May of last year.

His grandchildren affectionately called him G-Daddy, which he embraced because of his love for everything Georgia and especially the University of Georgia.  He will always be remembered for his humor, optimism, friendliness, devotion to his family and his love for the Lord and His Holy Temple.  He is survived by his wife of almost 42 years, who he called, “My Angel,” his five children, eleven grandchildren, and his three older brothers, Curt, Ricky, and Dennis.
