George Clyde Peck

Obituary Date: Tuesday, October 2, 2018

Mr. George Clyde Peck was born on December 06, 1927 in Flowery Branch, Georgia to Floyd and Mamie Tanner Peck. He died peacefully on October 02, 2018 at Waterford of Oakwood. He was raised in Barnesville, Georgia and attended Gordon Military School. He was drafted into the Army Air Corp in May 1946.

While serving in the Military his family moved back to Flowery Branch and on his first day back home he met the love of his life Pheobe Lois Day and they were married for 65 years until she passed away in 2015. He went to work at General Motors in 1952 and retired from there in 1982.

George was a member of Flat Creek Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Superintendent, and a member of the choir for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Pheobe, his brother, Charles Peck, and sister, Ilene   Vaughan.

Left to cherish his memory is daughters and their husbands Elaine and Earl Smith and Gale and Gary Park of Flowery Branch. His granddaughters Melissa and Stacy Phillips, Amber and Mike Price, Allison and Brian Moore, Emily Park, and his grandson Adam and Randi Smith all of Flowery Branch. His great grandchildren Hope and Hannah Phillips, Noah Park, Brianna, Jacob, Ella and Hudson Moore, Elena and Bennett Price, Kendalle Robins, and Alex Smith of Flowery Branch. His sister Doris Schoonover of Abbeville, Alabama. Sister-in-laws Velma Orr of Buford, Annie Mae Millwood of Flowery Branch, and Deborah Day of Gainesville. Brother-in-laws and sister-in-law’s Roy and Marie Bartlett of Gainesville, Buddy and Mary Wallace, and Buster and Brenda Tankersley of Flowery Branch and many nieces and nephews. 

Visitation will be on Thursday October 04, 2018 from 1:00 p.m. followed by the funeral at 2:30 p.m. presided by the Rev. Joe Vernon, Rev. Mike Taylor and the Rev. Stacy Phillips in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home with interment to follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff of Waterford of Oakwood and Homestead Hospice for their care and support.
