Joy Ann Amos

Joy Ann Amos, age 58, died May 6, 2018 after a long struggle with depression and mental illness. She was born in Indiana, Pennsylvania on September 4, 1959 to the late Helen and Paul Overdorff.

Joy earned an Associate Degree in Psychology from Phoenix Community College and a Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Therapy from Colorado State University, graduating with honors in 1990. As an Occupational Therapist, Joy had a special connection with both children and the elderly.  For many years she served as Pediatric Occupational Therapist with Habersham County, Georgia, schools, and more recently at the Bell Minor Home in Gainesville, GA. Joy was a faithful friend, maintaining connections with many throughout the United States.  She was a devoted mother who provided rich opportunities and experiences for her son. She displayed great enthusiasm for celebrating every birthday and holiday. Joy was self-effacing and demonstrated an abiding appreciation and respect for persons of all faiths, ethnicities, and circumstances. She was a beautiful being who will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered.

Joy is survived by her son, Alexander Amos, of Gainesville, GA, and three brothers, Richard Overdorff of Huntington Beach, CA, Gary Overdorff of Zanesville, Ohio, and Randall Overdorff, of Gainesville, GA. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by Donald Eugene Amos, father of her son.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 23 at the outdoor chapel at Gainesville First United Methodist Church.
