Johanna Thomas

Obituary Date: Monday, October 30, 2017

Johanna Thomas of Demorest, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, October 30, 2017 while surrounded by her loving family.  She had recently celebrated her 77th birthday. 

Johanna was born in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late Earl Sargent and Mary Belle Sargent.  She was a faithful member of Higher Grounds Baptist Church before her declining health kept her from attending.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Raymond Lee Thomas; and her son, Mike Thomas. 

She and her husband enjoyed designing and building furniture together before he opened his shop, R.L. Collectibles and Game Room.  In addition to working with her husband, Johanna, or “Bobby Jo” as she was affectionately called by the Hamilton children, worked in the home of Dr. James Hamilton helping care for the family’s children. 

She is survived by her four children, Greg Thomas (Tammy) of Brookesville, Florida, Pam Hipp of Clarkesville, Michael Thomas (Bailey) of Brasleton, and Chris Thomas of Clarkesville; four grandchildren, Shane Thomas, Jeremy Thomas, Joshua Thomas, and Mark Hipp; eight great grandchildren, Cassia Thomas, Calla Thomas, Micheal Land Hipp, Mark Hipp III, Madison Tanner, Mackenzie Tanner, Athena Thomas, and Lilly Thomas; sisters and brothers, Debbie Grein of Batavia, Ohio, Pam Burdine of Milford, Ohio, Dick Sargent of Land-O-Lakes, Florida, and Bruce Sargent of Murphy, North Carolina; sister in law, Shirley Hines (Reverend Jeff Hines) of Lansing, Michigan; and several nieces and nephews. 

She is also survived by her beloved Hamilton family, Dr. James Hamilton and his wife, Pam and their 12 children- Ben, Patrick, Greg, Tom, Kevin, Luke, Michael, Anna Rose, John Paul, Joseph, Danny, and Sam.

The family will receive friends from 3-5:00 P.M. Saturday at Hillside. 

Funeral services will be 5:00 P.M. Saturday in Hillside Memorial Chapel.  Brother Jimmy Roberts and Dr. James Hamilton will officiate.  Interment will follow in Clarkesville City Cemetery.
