Joe Miller “Jim” Jones

Obituary Date: Thursday, January 19, 2017

Joe Miller “Jim” Jones, 85 of Ringgold, GA, passed away peacefully on January 19, 2017.

Jim was born on May 27, 1931 in Ohatchee, AL and departed this life at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following a brief illness. He is survived by sons, Joe (Denise) Jones, Gainesville, GA, Jimmy (Susan) Jones, East Ridge, TN, and Dennis (Donna) Carter, Murfreesboro, TN; and, daughter, Pam Mimbs, Cleveland, GA. Brother, Ralph (Charlotte) Jones, Ringgold, GA; grandchildren, Destiny, Jessica, Jennifer, Jasidy, Joseph, Jeramy, Michelle, Sherrie, Nathan, and Taylor; 22 great grandchildren, and many other special family, friends, and pets. Jim is preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Jones; parents, Joe Weaver and Eva Jones; sisters, Francis Lee Basinger, Jeraldine Jones, and Dorothy Mae Jones; and, brother, Charles Jones.

Jim was drafted during the Korean War Era, and following a brief period in the Army, he returned home and worked many years for Joy’s Flowers, the Catoosa County Sheriff’s Department, and retired with over 45 years of service working directly with Joe Proctor and Jepco Mini Storage. During his years with Jepco, he was also a security guard for the Roller Coaster Skate Rink and Sweetwater Flea Market.

Jim did not meet a stranger; he loved spending time with his family and friends, and he enjoyed lending a helping hand. Jim loved his horses: training, riding, and trading, and he enjoyed many covered wagon horseback trail rides. In addition to his horses, he provided a home for many animals, most recently donkey’s, and he enjoyed gardening, so he could share what he grew.
