Barbara Pirkle

Obituary Date: Sunday, December 4, 2016

Barbara Pirkle, age 74 of Cumming, passed away on Saturday, December 3, 2016.  She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church. A faithful, loving and devoted wife and mother, Barbara was also a dedicated, caring, forgiving, loyal and giving grandmother (Nanny). She was a hard-working lady who led by example and taught us all to love everyone.

Since Barbara's retirement 30 years ago, she has lived for Albert, her children and grandchildren. She would religiously go to the grocery store on Saturdays and enjoyed cooking for her family (and anyone else who stopped by) on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday's. Every Thursday night, Barbara and Albert enjoyed dinner with Albert's family and then on Friday nights, she and her 7 brothers and sisters would go out to eat and usually spend the evening laughing and getting into a little mischief.

She loved to cook, read cookbooks, clean house, shop and take care of her family. After suffering a brain aneurysm in 1995, her health continued to decline, yet she never complained. What a legacy she leaves behind for those of us who loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Earnest Willie and Pluma Lee Pruitt; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Elmer and Estelle Pirkle; sister-in-law, Nancy Pirkle; brothers-in-law, Milton and Carroll Pirkle.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Albert Pirkle of Cumming; son and daughter-in-law, Joey and Michelle Pirkle of Cumming; daughter and son-in-law, Tonya and Kenneth Kelley of Cumming; grandchildren, Rev. Kade (Kendra) Kelley, Lydia and Caroline Pirkle; siblings, Cora (John Hugh) Flourney of Cumming, Willie Mae Keys of Cumming, Shirley (John) Stewart of Cumming, Mary (Phil) McWhorter of Cumming, Earnest, Jr. (Athene) Pruitt of Cumming, Danny (Debbie) Pruitt of Cumming, Gail Thompson of Cumming; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Sara (Aubrey) Vaughan of Cumming, Joyce (Jerry) Wilkie of Ball Ground; and a great host of nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 6th at 2:00 pm at Friendship Baptist Church with Rev. Ricky Byrd, Rev. Danny Bennett and Rev. Kade Kelley officiating.  Interment will follow in Sawnee View Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Ingram Funeral Home on Sunday from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm. Monday from 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm, Tuesday from 10:00 am until hour of service.
