James Claborn Holbrooks, Sr.

Mr. James Claborn Holbrooks, Sr., age 83 of 606 Cedar Fork Road, Toccoa, Georgia passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at his residence.

A son of the late Paul Eugene and Lizzie Mae Stone Holbrooks, he was born April 13, 1933 in Oconee County, South Carolina having lived most of his life in Stephens County.  He was a truck driver with Bowman Trucking Company for a long number of years and later retired from Old Dominion Truck Company.  He attended Old Toccoa Baptist Church.  He was preceded in death by five brothers, Levis, Clenon, Otis, Lewis and Gerald Holbrooks.

Survivors include his wife of the home, Sara Mae Rider Holbrooks; two daughters and sons-in-law, Marie and Calvin Young of Thomson, Georgia and Karen Holbrooks and Junior McClain of Toccoa; three sons, James C. Holbrooks, Jr. of Homer, Georgia and Jack Holbrooks and Jody Holbrooks both of Toccoa; grandchildren, Camille and Jeff Rodgers, Sonya Young, Christian and Ian Rivera, James C. Holbrooks, III and Keshia, Candice Holbrooks, Crystal Johnson and William A. Holbrooks; six great-grandchildren; sister, Lennie Couch of Westminster, South Carolina.

Funeral services will be Thursday, May 19, 4 O’clock PM in the Hillcrest Chapel of the Acree-Davis Funeral Home with The Reverend Roger Elrod and The Reverend Dr. Tommy Childress officiating.  The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, Rex Anderson, Henry Rider, Clay Holbrooks, Tommy Eller, Tony Eller and Johnny Singleton.

The family will be at the home on Cedar Fork Road and will receive friends at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home on Wednesday from 6 PM until 8 PM.  Online condolences can be made at www.acree-davisfh.com.

Interment will follow in the Old Toccoa Baptist Church Cemetery with the Acree-Davis Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements for Mr. James C. Holbrooks, Sr.
