Sam Tate Davis

Sam Tate Davis, age 87, of Dahlonega, GA, died Tuesday, January 8, 2014 at his home following a short illness.


Sam was a native and lifelong resident of Lumpkin County. He was retired from the City of Dahlonega Water Department. He was a WWII Navy Veteran and was of the Baptist faith. Sam was very proud of his Cherokee Indian heritage.

Sam was the son of the late Walker Dan Davis and Alla May Higgins Davis and he was also preceded in death by brothers, Rufe Davis,Clayton Davis, and Jack Conley Davis; sisters, Lila Mae Calhoun and Fannie Bell Shelton.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Bonnelle Davis, Dahlonega, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Nelson T. Davis and Peggy Slaton, Dahlonega, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Vera and Mike Pierce, Dahlonega, GA; grandchildren, Ryan and Marisa Pierce, Brent and Stacia Pierce, and Adam Pierce; great-grandchildren, Kate Fitts, Clayton Pierce, Lexi Pierce, and Summer Pierce. Numerous other relatives also survive.

Funeral services for Sam are scheduled for 3 PM Saturday, January 11, 2014 at the Banister Funeral Home Chapel in Dahlonega.

Rev. Lyman Caldwell and Rev. Tony Allison will officiate.

Interment will follow in the Davis Family Cemetery in Lumpkin County.

The family will receive friends at Banister Funeral Home in Dahlonega on Thursday, January 9, 2014 from 4 PM until 9 PM, all day on Friday, 1/10/2014 starting at 10 AM, and again on Saturday from 10 AM until 3 PM.
