On August 19, 2013, Adel Upchurch Holcombe went home to be with her Lord and Savior, King Jesus.

She was born in Gwinnett County, Georgia on April 19, 1937. She was the oldest daughter of James and Grace Bailey Upchurch. She lived a life that was a testimony of her faith in Christ. She was clothed with strength, dignity and laughed without fear of the future (Proverbs 31:25). She faithfully served and ministered alongside her husband Rev. Ed Holcombe at Dacula First Baptist Church, Dacula, GA; Zion Hill Baptist Church, Buford, GA; Edwards Chapel Baptist Church, Athens, GA; Chestnut Grove Baptist Church, Grayson, GA; and Head of Tennessee Baptist Church, Dillard, GA. She retired from the Georgia Education System after working in the College of Arts and Sciences at UGA and at Rabun Gap Community School. In all that she did, whether baking a cake, crocheting a blanket, or caring for her family, she continued to serve and minister until her final day.

She is survived by her children, Marlon Holcombe of Duluth, Georgia, Lisa Holcombe Porter and Doug Porter of Demorest, Georgia, Don and Kim Holcombe of Rabun Gap; her grandchildren, Douglas and Kristen Porter of Raleigh, North Carolina, Hallie Porter Smith and Daniel Smith of Raleigh, North Carolina, Brad and Wes Holcombe of Rabun Gap; great-grandson, Kieran Douglas Porter; brother, Ron and Carol Upchurch of Tiger, GA; and sister Shirley and Manfred Lowen of Winder, GA; and many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Rev. Ed Holcombe, her grandson Russ Holcombe, her parents James and Grace Upchurch, and brother, Jimmy Upchurch.
On August 21, 2013, her home going will be celebrated because of her unwavering faith and hope that she had in Christ.

The family will receive friends at Beck Funeral Home from 3-5 PM and from 6-8 PM on Wednesday, August 21, 2013. Funeral services will be officiated by Rev. Doug Porter and her grandchildren at 11 AM, Thursday, August 22, 2013 in the Beck Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Head of Tennessee Baptist Church Cemetery.
