Joseph Hayward "Heavy" Beck

Joseph Hayward "Heavy" Beck, age 79, of Dahlonega, GA, passed away Saturday, June 29, 2013 at his home following a short illness.

Hayward was a native and lifelong resident of Cane Creek Valley in Lumpkin County and was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Lumpkin County. He retired from North Georgia College as the Custodial Supervisor. He was also a poultry and livestock farmer. Hayward was a member of Blue Mountain Masonic Lodge in Dahlonega for over 50 years. He enjoyed going to the Lanier Farmer's Livestock Corporation livestock auction in Forsyth County. Hayward, fondly known to many as "Heavy", and his wife, Jeweleen shared their time and love. Many friends and neighbors benefited from their love of gardening, their love for people, and Pops love of cutting trees.

He was the son of the late Frank and Ethel Ferguson Beck and was also preceded in death by his beloved wife Jeweleen Beck; brother, F.M. Beck Jr.; sisters, Leona Martin and Mamie Kistler; children, Carolyn Allison and Joe Wayne Littleton.

Hayward is survived by his children, Melissa Leffler and her husband, Vince, Franklin, TN; Mark A. Littleton, Dahlonega, GA; Joseph Shawn Littleton and his wife, Heavenly, Dahlonega, GA; grandchildren, Cade, Cameron, and Kai Lefler, and Opal Jewelyn Littleton. Numerous nieces, nephews, and loving family and friends also survive.

Funeral services for Hayward are scheduled for 3:00 PM Monday, July 1, 2013 at the Banister Funeral Home Chapel in Dahlonega, GA.

Rev. Lyman Caldwell will officiate.

Interment will follow in the Bethlehem/Jones Chapel Cemetery in Lumpkin County.

The family will receive friends at Banister Funeral Home in Dahlonega on Sunday from 5 PM until 9 PM and again on Monday until the time of service.
