Phillip David Lovell

Obituary Date: Thursday, August 16, 2012

Mr. Phillip David Lovell passed away on August 16, 2012, surrounded by the mountains he called home in Clayton, GA.

Phillip was a photographer, dedicated naturalist and life-long explorer of the outdoors. He taught us how to truly see quiet spaces, the strange, the simple, the beautiful and the awe inspiring around us. Never content with the middle of the road, he lived life to the beat of his own drum.

Phillip was born in Atlanta, December 2, 1977 and resided in Lilburn, GA. He attended Lyman Ward Military Academy, Greater Atlanta Christian School and graduated from Parkview High School in 1995. Phillip spent the summers of his youth at his grandparents' house on Lake Burton. It was there he developed his passion for the Northeast Georgia Mountains. He traveled extensively throughout the Southeastern states, hiked the northern portion of the Appalachian Trail through Maine, Vermont and New Hampshire and participated in Habitat for Humanity volunteer building projects in Nepal, Fiji and New Zealand. His photo-documentation of these trips is legendary; however, he will always be best remembered for his published nature photography of the Northeast Georgia Mountains. We are all better people because we had the privilege to know Phillip. Words can never convey how much he was loved and will be missed by his family and friends.

Phillip is survived by his mother and step-father, Sandra Bexley-Plott and Lonnie Plott; father and step-mother, Earle George Lovell and Catherine Lovell; grandparents, Harry and Harriett Bexley; great-aunt, Ann Rivers; sisters, Marla Bexley-Lovell and Anna Lovell; brother, Jeremy Lovell; step-brother, Brent Plott; cousins, Alan, Lauren and Rob Bexley; nephew, Brendan Harrison Bexley Brown; and countless aunts, uncles, friends and neighbors. Family and friends are cordially invited to attend A Celebration of Philip's Life, Sunday, September 9, 2012, at 1:00 p.m. at Mama G's Restaurant on Hwy. 441 in Clayton, GA.
