James William Craven

Mr. James William Craven, age 91 of Gillsville passed away on Saturday, July 21, 2012 at Brighter Mornings. Mr. Craven was born in Jefferson to the late, Bill and Annie Craven. Mr. Craven was a long time resident of Hall County and retired from the Hall County Public Works and was a member of Gillsville Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, Mr. Craven was preceded in death by his first wife, Mamie Griffeth Craven.

Mr. Craven was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Hayes Craven of Gillsville; daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Jerry Parker of Gillsville; sons and daughters-in-law, Joe and Pamela Craven of Maysville and Mike and Vickie Craven of Gillsville; four grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren; step daughters, Ann Thompkins of Athens and Sue Whiddon of Jefferson; step-sons, Keith Hayes and Tony Hayes both of Jefferson; seven step grandchildren and twelve step great grandchildren.

Funeral service will be Tuesday, July 24 at 2:00 PM from Gillsville Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Calhoun and Rev. Marshall Dale officiating. Mr. Craven will lie in state from 1:30 until 2:00 PM with the interment following in the Midway United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday night from 4-8 PM.
