Harold Dean Vickers

Harold Dean Vickers, age 89 of Oakwood, died peacefully on Sunday, January 29, 2012 of declining health.

Funeral services are scheduled for Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at 11:00 am in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home with interment to follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Reverend Bobby Brown will officiate. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 31, 2012 from 12:00 noon till 9:00 pm at the funeral home.


Mr. Vickers was born May 9, 1922 in Oakwood, Georgia to the late Howard Vickers and Mae Bagwell Vickers. He graduated from Oakwood High School and was a lifelong member of Mountain View Baptist Church. Dean was employed at Georgia Marble, then later worked and retired from Blue Circle Aggregates. After retirement from Blue Circle, he continued his passion of transferring cars across the southeast, always on the go, he was happy when he was behind the wheel driving. Dean was a prankster, always pulling practical jokes on his friends and family. He loved gardening, growing things to just give away to others, loved to travel and was a NASCAR fan. Dean never met a stranger and will be missed by all that knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Flora Belle Boleman and his son, Harold Lanier Vickers.

Mr. Vickers is survived by his wife of 67 years, Latrelle Cheek Vickers of Oakwood, daughter & son-in-law, Cheryle & Tony Williams of Flowery Branch, son, Vyron Vickers of Oakwood, grandchildren, Kendra & Tracey Coker, Crystal Williams, Nathan Williams, Nicole Williams, 2 great-grandchildren, Madison Coker and Lanier Coker.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Mountain View Baptist Church, c/o Senior Citizens Fund, 3765 Mountain View Road, Gainesville, GA 30504.
