Lucille Ernestine Henry

Obituary Date: Monday, October 10, 2011
Memorial Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, October 15, 2011 at First Presbyterian Church for Lucille Ernestine Henry who died Monday, October 10, 2011, after an extended illness. The family will receive friends after the service in the Swetenburg Hall.

She was born on September 11, 1917 in Lemmon, South Dakota to Peter and Katherine Herboldt Busk. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Robert D. Henry, her parents, eight siblings, granddaughter Rebecca Mohney, daughter Michelle Henry.

Lucille spent her first 20 years in South Dakota attending High School, working for the telephone company and the local theater. She met her life partner, a handsome red headed soldier. They married and began their life as a military family raising five daughters. They lived in several states as well as in Germany, Okinawa, the Philipines, Guam and Alaska.

She loved volunteering with the Family Services Program on each base she lived on, helping families get settled into their new homes. While in the Philipines she worked as a Gray Lady with the hospital at Clark AFB working with wounded soldiers coming in from Vietnam. She also worked with orphaned children brought from Vietnam.

She was gifted with all sorts of arts and crafts, teaching others how to do the many beautiful creations that she made. In the communities where they lived she got involved in various volunteer activities, becoming a Girl Scout Leader for all of her girls. She and her husband were passionate about and delivered Meals on Wheels for more than 30 years. She was in the Eastern Star and worked with Rainbow Girls as well.

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law Dottie and Cliff Rigby, Gainesville, GA, Helen and Phil King, Cobleskill, NY, Avis and Bill Mohney, Kittaning, PA, Teri and Jim MacMaster, Maysville, GA. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in her honor to local Meals on Wheels or Lucille's church, First Presbyterian Church of Gainesville, Georgia.
