Doris "Dot" Hewell King

Doris "Dot" Hewell King, age 96, of Baldwin, Georgia, passed away on Thursday, August 11, 2011.

Dot was born on May 9, 1915, in Dewy Rose, Georgia, to the late Olden Ornan and Josephine Adams Hewell. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James Grover "Jimmy" King; her brother, Ralph W. Hewell; and her sisters, Onyce Hewell May and Troyce Hewell Atkinson. Dot taught in the Habersham County School System for over 35 years at Baldwin Elementary School from 1939 to 1974. She was a member of the Baldwin Baptist Church. Dot loved to crochet and was an active member of her church until her health kept her from participating.

Survivors include her sister, Opal H. Herndon, Hartwell, GA; nephews and their wives, Thomas Hewell and Shirley M. Herndon, Marietta, GA and Thomas P. and Sandy May, Wrightsville Beach, NC; niece and her husband, Margaret M. and Stewart Wahl, Bonita Springs, FL; several grand nieces and grand nephews; and special caregivers and friends, Lois and K.C. Chitwood, Jr., Mary Lou Martin, and Lorena Sears, all of Baldwin, GA.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 15, 2011, at the Baldwin Baptist Church with the Rev. Scott Brown officiating. Burial will follow in the Level Grove Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. on Sunday, August 14, 2011, at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, Georgia.
