Warren S. Jackson

Warren S. Jackson, age 81, of Gainesville passed away Saturday, August, 21, 2010 at his residence following a sudden illness.

Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at 11:00 am in the Gainesville First United Methodist Church with interment to follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery, Valor Memorial Garden. Dr. Terry Walton and Reverend Phil Carpenter will officiate. The family will receive friends Monday, August 23, 2010 from 6:00 to 9:00 pm at Memorial Park Funeral Home North-Riverside Chapel.

Mr. Jackson was born on June 4, 1929 in Centralhatchee, Heard County and graduated from Centralhatchee High School. Mr. Jackson then attended West Georgia College before serving in the U.S. Navy as a Petty Officer 3rd Class from 1948-1952 during the Korean conflict. He was a lifelong Bulldawg fan having graduated from the University of Georgia in 1955. After graduating from college he was in pharmaceutical sales for almost 20 years. He then moved from Duluth, GA to Gainesville, GA and built and operated the award winning, Western Sizzlin Steak House for 20 years in Gainesville and Toccoa. Mr. Jackson retired in 1993 and has enjoyed time with his wife Jean, his children, and especially his grandchildren on Lake Lanier and their farm in Suches, GA. He also has enjoyed his time outdoors, particulary cutting grass, splitting firewood, and enjoying his open fire. Mr. Jackson was an avid fan of college and professional football, as well as baseball. He spent a lot of time volunteering at his church cooking meals for Good News At Noon. He was a Master Mason and belonged to the Centralhatchee Lodge #403. Mr. Jackson is preceded in death by his parents, Hulette and Zema Hardy Jackson.

Mr. Jackson is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Jean Jackson of Gainesville; son, and daughter-in-law, Greg and Natalie Jackson of Toccoa, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Ben and Rhonda Jackson of Westminister, SC; son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Joe and Valencia Jackson of Gainesville; 5 grandchildren, Samuel, Daniel, Will, Matalyn and Lauren Jackson; sister and brother-in-law, Bobbie and Owen Davis of Franklin, GA; and sister and brother-in-law, Nita and Lee Barr of Carrollton, GA; along with a host of several nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly.
