Bennie Lee Chitwood

Bennie Lee Chitwood, age 80 of Cornelia, passed away Thursday, June 25, 2009, at Mt. Lakes Medical Center following a sudden illness.

Born in Banks County on December 03, 1928, he was the son of the late Oscar Wilkie and Eliza Ethel Lorena Self Chitwood. Mr. Chitwood served our country proudly in the United States Air Force. He was the owner/operator of the Greyhound bus station in Cornelia for many years, a member of Hazel Creek Baptist Church and Mt Airy Masonic Lodge #141 F. & A. M. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife Cleo McCrackin Chitwood; brothers, J. D., Chillos, Loyd, Richard, Billy, Otis; sisters, Johnie Mae Scales and Irene Smith.

Surviving are four nieces, ten nephews and special friend Evelyn Rowe of Morristown TN.

Funeral services are 3:30 pm Sunday, June 28, 2009, at McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ralph O. Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the Hazel Creek Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
