Donald J. (Crash) Smallwood

Obituary Date: Friday, March 22, 2024

ECC 3:2

To everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven. A time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to break and a time to build.

Donald J. (Crash) Smallwood, 87, of Gainesville GA passed peacefully at his home surrounded by his family into the presence of his Lord and savior Jesus Christ on March 22nd, 2024.

Born September 9th, 1936, to Jake and Lizzie Mae Smallwood, he was a member of Chicopee Baptist Church and a graduate of Lyman Hall High School. His work ethic lead to him being successful in the petroleum industry for over 50 years. Being the founder of D-Jay Petroleum, Inc., he also served as chairman of the Georgia Oilmans Association. Don always gave back to the community he loved by serving on the Hall County planning board for over 20 years.

He was also an avid sportsman. For 40 years, you might have seen him on a local High School football field or basketball court refereeing the sports he loved. He was a founding member of the Saturday Morning Golf Group and the Cake Box golf tournament. He also attended all of his kid’s and grandkid’s sporting events. He loved to cheer on his Georgia Bulldogs and Atlanta Braves, but mostly, he loved to ride on his tractors.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Jean; daughter, Sherry Mays (Charles), sons, Greg Smallwood (Mary), Jay Smallwood (Tuesday); grandchildren, Blake Cain, Brooke Cain (Cole), Bam Cain, Trent Smallwood (Lori), Lance Smallwood (Bailie), Abby Smallwood, AJ Smallwood (Bailey); 13 great grandkids; brother, Randall Smallwood (Jackie); sister, Joyce Ferguson, and a number of nieces and nephews

Don is proceeded in death by his parents, and brothers, Edward Smallwood (Geraldine) and Milton Smallwood (Sylvia).

Funeral services are scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Monday, March 25, 2024 in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home. Rev. Brian Hall will officiate. Interment will follow in Alta Vista Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Memorial Park Funeral Home on Sunday, March 24, 2024 from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.
